The new stats and analytic tools that are now available in every Skiller developer web profile, provides you with all the statistics you’ll need in order to thoroughly explore your games performance.

here is list of what is currently available for Skiller’s developers, which is presented in a very intuitive web interface:

Registered users per application ID

Daily view (per 24 hours)

Weekly view (per 7 days)

Month view (per calendar month)

DAU / WAU / MAU – Active daily / weekly / monthly users accordingly

Accumulated Reg. users (Total growth)

Activity – Avg. unique daily active users

Average number of sessions per user

Number of users games created

Number of users games started

Ads shown in application (per chosen period)

Top countries paying users

Income revenue – In application purchases made by the users

In addition to these statistics we are currently developing an event graph, which will allow you to define your own events within the game to be analyzed. These events could be monitored later on, in order to analyze game activities such as number of spells used, accomplished levels, number of resources consumed etc. etc.

Track your players expenses, learn what type of game items they like, when do they like to play and for how long.

Create more traction in your game and longer game retention, which in turn will increase your revenue stream!

Today, I’d like to talk about a term that’s been tossed around quite a lot in the mobile gaming scene, called multiplayer game-play

When I joined Skiller, I naturally assumed that mobile multiplayer game play experience is as simple as completing levels in Angry birds. It appears that developing a real multiplayer experience in the mobile world is not a trivial task…

Unlike stationary networks and PCs, mobile devices do not necessarily carry a unique IP address, and mobile devices which are not in proximity (Ethernet/Bluetooth) cannot connect and interact with each other

In order to enable a true multiplayer gaming experience, the Skiller’s SDK accomplishes four major challenges every game developer faces: real multiplayer games algorithms, server side logic, hardware backbone, maintenance, and resource scalability.

Since many mobile devices include local-area connectivity capabilities in the form of Bluetooth wireless technology or local Wi-Fi. Some games have based their multiplayer functionality on these technologies, only to find out that when it comes to true and global multiplayer experience, those methods fall short

Logically these connections only allow people within a limited distance or a local network to play with each other, which in turn, significantly decrease the number of online game opponents and limits social network growth

Skiller main goal was to design and deliver a true social-centric gaming platform where developers can leverage its wide network of global partners and enable multiplayer over 3G as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. Skiller platform encourages gamers to play more and socialize more, which in turn, leads to improved monetization and serves as a viral incentive to bring more gamers on board. From a developer perspective, the Skiller platform provides a one-stop access to building seamless cross-platform multiplayer gaming services.

The Skiller platform is popular among Smartphone as well as feature phones users. Skiller provides a social & multiplayer SDK for feature phones which are based on J2ME and supports Symbian OS and BlackBerry. Recently Skiller added support for Android and Windows Phone 7 OS, thereby transforming into a true cross-platform gaming service.

Ohh and the best part? Well you guessed it correctly! The Skiller SDKs along with Skiller’s social cloud are offered FREE to game developers and abstract a number of crucial features such as server side logic, backbone hardware maintenance and resource scalability, so that game developers can concentrate on developing their game logic rather than worrying about IT infrastructure and network layer development.

So what are you waiting for? Want to create a true multiplayer gaming experience, download the Skiller SDK and see how you can get your players to really play with each other!

I received a very interesting mail from a one of our developers, which I thought I’d share with you.

He describes the process of implementing the Skiller Social & Multiplayer SDK into his app.

It is always important for us to get this kind of feedback and improve in what ever we can, in-order to help you launch your social & multiplayer game as soon as possible.

With the launch of SDK 2.0 we also integrated new on-line support feature on our web-site, such as live chat and FAQs. We urge you to use them, and tell us on the spot what you think, or what you need.

So without further ado here it is -

As a mobile developer, gaming was an intriguing topic for me. While I wandered around in the internet searching for a gaming network to work with in my new project, I came across Skiller.

At first when I entered their website I looked up for their SDK download.

The developers tab is very easy to find, especially because of the little wooden sign pointing to it.

Upon the successful registration, I received an email from Skiller with my login details, a link to confirm the registration, and a note from the VP of the R&D telling me that he is there to help, giving his email, Twitter and Facebook page.

I clicked the link to complete my registration, apparently this did not logged me in, and instead I had to look up for the login box on the right head corner. An option to save my login credentials would have been nice.

Now the developers section is really a candy for the eye. It has three large boxes containing all I need to know for now.

As in my registration I assigned myself as an Android developer, I got a link of downloading the android Skiller SDK, and so I did that. I also got a link to download the Skiller SDK for the Mobile Java platform, an interesting choice giving that I am not a j2me developer, but I can understand the connection.

On the left side I saw a button asking to “Create Game” with a plus icon. I clicked that button and a new page was opened. I entered my details, and moved to the Store tab. Here I can create items to sell in my game’s store, a really cool option to intrigue your customers, and create a new way to gain profit.

I can also add achievements to my game, which I can grant my customers with ease through my code.

Then I’ve returned to SDK. After unzipping it I saw a getting started document, with the tutorial I was missing in the webpage.

I followed the orders in the document, and I must admit I found them very clear and instructive. I’ve managed to set up a login to my app with the Skiller platform in less than 30 seconds! That is absolutely remarkable.

Wrap up

The Skiller platform is very ease to implement, and the Getting Started document is very instructive. The website on the other still needs a work. Overall the platform really gave me the desire to taste and test more, and I do think Skiller is a great tool and a big improvement to your game.

The concept of smartphone can be dated back to the IBM Simon, the first touchscreen mobile phone, which combined pager, PDA and fax machine. 17 year later, smartphones has become a lot more smarter and multipurpose user device.

As sales for smartphones continue rising, those of feature phones keep dropping with each passing day. In fact as it was recently published in the guardian, smartphones are heading to a ‘tipping point’ as new data shows the point where half of UK users have smartphones is about a year away

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/jul/11/ios-android-blackberry-smartphone-data

Indeed, Smartphone, a small, classy, elegant computer device running on operating systems (iOS, Android etc.) is considered as status symbol among tech freaks. However, let me remind you, smartphones are expensive device cost wise and for some it is still beyond the reach of normal middle class and developed countries.

Nokia used to have a very large following before smartphones made a debut in the market but its users are now leaving it for smartphones. This has forced Nokia and Microsoft to enter into partnership and Nokia intends to phase out its Symbian phone in support of Windows Phone 7. The phase-out is necessary because Symbian did not perform well in the market as it was expected.<ins cite="mailto:mandira" datetime="2011-07-25T14:01"></ins>

The Java developer’s dilemma

The market for iPhone, Android and other smartphone devices are growing. But majority of mobile phone users are still using their feature phones and big brands and phone manufactures should not ignore this segment.

We know there are hundreds of gaming enthusiasts and Java developers are seeking new ways to re-vamp their existing Java games. Developers believe that by adding a social and multiplayer layer into their game or tapping into a new gaming platform they will be able to create longer game retention and generate new revenue stream to their existing game.

Up until now, game developers platforms & software development tools were all focused on the emerging markets such as Android and Windows Phone 7.

The Skiller platform is looking to change this paradigm by introducing a cross platform software development kit that now supports Java and feature phones alongside Android game developers.

What is the Skiller platform?

The Skiller platform is a mobile gaming platform that allows mobile gamers from all over the world to play and fully interact with each other. The games on Skiller platform are mostly skill games, such as checkers, backgammon, reversi, tic tac toe and others, hence the name Skiller. The gamer’s interaction is achieved through a variety of social features such as personal messaging, in-game chat, and an active wall board. Registered gamers who are using the Skiller platform can earn or buy Skiller coins, which can be used for gathering virtual goods or exchanging them to mobile goods.

The Skiller platform is mostly popular among mobile phone users who are using feature phones which are based on J2ME or Symbian OS. Recently The Skiller platform added support for Android and Windows Phone 7 OS turning the platform into a cross-platform multiplayer gaming service.

Innovative features in feature phones

Going back to the title of this article, I highly doubt that feature phones will be out of market in near future. They will continue to serve people who want simple yet affordable cellphones.

It is highly unlikely that prices for smartphones are going to drop any time soon so feature phones have a chance of surviving for several more years.

There is also no doubt that multiplayer mobile games are the hottest trend among mobile players. It makes perfect sense since mobile online gamers demonstrate twice as heavy usage of mobile phone as compared to other gamers, who do not play online games. The days have gone when you needed friends in neighborhood to play a game together!

Using the Skiller SDK developers can now deliver games using a combination of “Freemium” and “Advertiser Funded” business models that enable consumers to experience most of the games for free and give them the choice of paying a small premium for some games. These innovative business models can now be targeted to feature phone gamers who are looking for the ability to play and interact with other players through a ubiquitous platform while benefiting from a new payment experience.

There is no doubt that multiplayer mobile games are the hottest trend among mobile players. It makes perfect sense since mobile online gamers demonstrate twice as heavy usage of mobile phone as compared to other gamers, who do not play online games, and with introduction of more on-line game platforms this usage can grow even further.

We at skiller, dedicated the last two years in building a unique casual gaming platform which currently hosts millions of games sessions each month, from more than 202 countries. Creating a truly social gaming experience over mobile phones, currently supported on J2ME, Android and Blackberry phones (WP-7, and iPhone are coming soon).

Along with the exponential growth of the Android Market, and the ever-growing request of developers to adapt their existing and upcoming games to the social trend, We are now releasing SDK 2.0 which introduces new abilities for mobile games developers.

The Skiller SDK 2.0 enhances the player’s on-line interaction by allowing them to instantly add their game opponents to their buddy list, thus improving the community social engagement, through existing social tools such as messaging, challenges, in-game chat, all in the same social environment.

Also new in the Skiller 2.0 SDK: Skiller’s Ads API with enhanced payout, allowing developers to present advertisements directly into their apps, which now includes an advanced mechanism which improves the ads click-through rates (CTR).

Skiller’s SDK 2.0 release paves the way to a series of new capabilities including enhanced multiplayer algorithms and rematch mode, improved game item management, wider viral distribution, and user persistent data storage.

The integration with Skiller Android SDK is simple and creates more traction and longer game retention. This results in new revenue streams that are generated using the “Skiller coins economy”, where users can earn or buy coins, together with a virtual items store offering a wide range of mobile goods or in-game items, all available using the Skiller SDK.

Developers interested in learning more about Skiller SDK and incentive plan should visit the developers web-page
